National Poetry Day 2020

Updated: Oct 12, 2021

Each class were presented with their own famous poet to shine a spotlight onto. They learnt about the poets themselves to discover their inspirations and also they explored their poetry work, both in written form and through viewing performances. Alongside this research, the children enjoyed following a variety of poetry based writing activities, using a range of stimuli and inspirations to shape and inform their work. Our glorious finale was that many children endeavoured to learn a piece of poetry off by heart to then recite to their classmates and teachers on this special day. These recitations were a great honour to share and we were so proud of all the children who took part and worked so hard at learning some pretty challenging pieces of work. An added bonus was that we ran this as a sponsored event and thanks to the generosity of our wonderful parents, carers and friends we raised a whopping £1561.42 for school funds: what a fabulous day!
