Welcome to Beech Class! We are the youngest (Reception Class) of the Wickhambreaux Community and full of tenacity, spontaneity and curiosity! We love learning through play, exploring and taking risks in our learning. Our class is nurturing, generous and a caring place where all are welcome. Mrs. Bremner (Early Years Co-Ordinator), Ms. Brewster (Teacher) and Miss. Young (TA) all help us with our learning at different times of the week. So come and join us as we fly through learning adventures in our first year at school!
Our learning is centered around key stories within the themes detailed below as well as any specific interests we have as a group, often taking our learning on exciting new pathways.
We love our Monster Phonics©, Numberblocks© and JigsawPSHE© lessons throughout the year as well as material from our specialist teachers, Mrs. Maisey (Music) and Mme. Holland (French) who also reflect our curriculum themes.
Our learning throughout the year is delivered in a holistic approach, covering a variety of themes. In the Autumn terms we begin our Memorable Learning Journey with Nursery Rhymes, Myself, Autumn, Celebrations and Toys. As the season changes in the New Year we learn about Winter, Space and Traditional Tales followed by in the Summer terms, Minibeasts and Water/Seaside.
Click on the unit overviews below to find out more about our themes.
Latest Class News
I hope you have all had a great Easter break and that you and your child are well rested.
I would like to take this opportunity to share a few of the exciting parts that are coming up this term. Mrs Brewster and Miss Young will be welcoming your child into the Reception Class garden on Monday's and dismissing them on a Monday and Tuesday afternoon. Please do not hesitate to speak to Mrs. Brewster about anything as I have worked closely with her for a number of years in EYFS, as well as through her previous roles throughout the school so she is well versed!
This term's topic will be Minibeasts where the children will be learning about a variety of insects beginning with a fictional story each week to introduce each creature. We will then be using non-fiction texts and online resources to explore the scientific facts. This will enable to children to develop their reading, writing, creative and scientific knowledge using a child centered approach.
The children will continue to develop their fluency in number following the NCTEM Mastering Number program where the children will begin to subitise number bonds to 10, write numerals, make estimations, explore measuring through comparisons and eventually using non-standard units.
Please can I remind you to send your child to school in PE kit with their plain house coloured t-shirt on a Friday. If the weather is cold their usual school jumper should be worn please. This term the children will be developing their 'Bat/Racket/Stick and Ball' skills. Sports included will be Cricket, Tennis and Hockey at an age appropriate level.
The children will also continue their Personal, Social, Emotional Development using the JIGSAW PSHE material. This term's topic is Relationships; beginning with; My family and me! (I can identify some of the jobs I do with my family.)
In R.E. we will be talking about different World Faiths and stories that are important. This is following the firm foundation that you child has gained in understanding stories that Christian people find important.
Please do also take a look at the knowledge organisers on the EYFS section of our school website for details of the stories and facts your child will be learning.
I look forward to seeing you all and hearing all your child's news!
