River Stour Workshop
Maple Class Investigate River Life at Wickhambreaux Weir
River Stour Workshop
As part of their Rainforests and Rivers topic, Maple Class took a brilliant trip to Wickhambreaux Weir for a hands-on workshop led by Milla from the Kent Stour Trust.
The children investigated the health of the river by collecting samples and searching for indicator species – small creatures that give clues about how clean and healthy the water is. They were excited to discover plenty of freshwater shrimps and leeches!
To deepen their understanding, the class also measured flow rates and took part in an energetic game that explored how animal populations in river ecosystems can change over time.
After a morning full of scientific discovery and outdoor learning, Maple Class enjoyed a peaceful picnic lunch beside the river.
The class would like to thank Milla and the Kent Stour Trust for such an exciting and informative experience linked to their learning in geography and science.
