This week has been Children’s Book Week, with lots of fun activities taking place across the school. Please check the latest news section for more details and photos of everything the children have been enjoying. Thank you so much for your support with all the events.
In maths, we continued our work on hundredths, using place value counters to explore different ways of composing the same decimal fraction. This helped us see clearly how tenths and hundredths combine and how the value stays the same even when represented in different ways.
In geography, we learnt about active, dormant and extinct volcanoes. We also explored the warning signs of an imminent eruption, such as increased earthquakes and gases being released. Using evidence, the children enjoyed predicting how likely certain volcanoes might be to erupt.
In R.E., we learnt about how the gurdwara sits at the heart of the Sikh community. We read different people’s experiences of visiting the gurdwara and discovered that it can be many things: a place for Saturday school, sports, music, socialising, and also a place where people help those in need through langar (sharing food).
Year 3 finished their Yayoi Kusama-inspired pumpkins, painting their clay sculptures. Once they are fully dry, we will varnish them and the children will be able to take them home.
A reminder that Wednesday is our trip to the Marlowe Theatre to watch the Philharmonia Orchestra. Please refer to the email sent earlier this week for full details. Children should bring a packed lunch and wear school uniform, as there will be no dance lesson that day.
