Residential 2025 - Peak District

Monday 9th June to Friday 13th June

Daily updates and photos will be posted here every evening (internet permitting!).

DAY THREE (Wednesday)

Today was full of adventure and courage! We started with abseiling off a disused railway bridge – a real test of nerves that many of us conquered with pride. Later, we took to the water for canoeing and a chilly swim in the reservoir, where some of us faced our fears and even managed to cover Mr Barnes’ face with algae! We refuelled with a well-earned chip shop tea, and now we’re lacing up our boots for an evening hike. Spirits are high and laughter is loud!

DAY TWO (Tuesday)

After dinner on Monday, we had a game of football before settling in for the night. Then we woke up bright and early for a day of climbing and scrambling at The Roaches, a ridge in the Peak District National Park. We had an amazing day (with blue skies!) climbing with ropes, scrambling up rocks and even lowering ourselves upside down through small crevasses! Mrs Barnes, Mr Kent and Mr Barnes are all incredibly proud of how the children have stepped outside their comfort zones, challenged themselves, and supported one another along the way.

Now back at base, we've just enjoyed a roast dinner and apple crumble with ice cream, and are now relaxing in our rooms or playing games outside. We'll be having an early night ready for another fun-filled day tomorrow!

DAY ONE (Monday)

We arrived at our accommodation after a smooth journey. After meeting our four instructors, who'll be with us for the week, we settled into our rooms and then went out for our first activity: rock scrambling.

The children all worked brilliantly as a team, encouraging each other as we made our way up and down steep rock faces and squeezed between boulders. The effort was well worth it as we admired the views over the southern Peak District.

We're now back at our accommodation, enjoying the games room and piano. Dinner will be served soon... tonight's menu is meatballs, pasta and garlic bread!
