Children's Book Week 2026

With 2026 being the National Year of Reading, this year's Children's Book Week promises to be one of the biggest and best yet!

Timetable of Events (week beginning 2nd March)

Monday – Potato Character Competition
Children are invited to bring in a potato decorated as a favourite book character.

Each entry will receive 10 house points, and there will be prizes for the winning entries in each year group.

Please ensure that all entries include:

· The name of the potato character

· Your child’s name

· Class

· House

Upon arrival at school, entries should be taken directly to the village hall and placed on the relevant year group table.

All entries will be sent home with the children at home time.

Tuesday – Shared Reading Activities
Children will share their favourite books or comics with others across the school. They are encouraged to bring a book from home to share.

Wednesday – Book Sale
Children will have the opportunity to purchase preloved books at our morning book sale.
Books will cost £1 per book.
Please send money in with your child in a named envelope.

All proceeds will go towards further enhancing reading opportunities at Wickhambreaux CEP School.

Thursday – World Book Day & Carousel of Comic Book Activities

Children will take part in a variety of comic-themed activities across different classes to promote a love of reading.

To celebrate World Book Day, children are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite comic strip or graphic novel character.

This is all about celebrating reading and having fun together, so please do not feel any pressure to provide expensive costumes. Simple, creative ideas are absolutely perfect!

If your child would prefer to dress as another book character, that is absolutely fine too.

Every child is entitled to a £1.00 book token to spend on a book. Please check emails for details on how to redeem.
